If you own a home in Barcelona, this is the time to take advantage of the subsidies available from the European Next Generation funds. The council has made available to all citizens 4 lines of assistance that can cover up to 80% of your investment, so today we explain how you can access this grant to rehabilitate a home.
The housing assistance offered by the Barcelona City Council is aimed at homeowners who want to take measures to improve the energy efficiency of their home, such as changing locks, changing windows or changing air conditioning systems to replace fossil energy with renewable energy or biomass.
These actions also lead to significant economic savings in household energy consumption, and will help mitigate the effects of climate change and build a more sustainable country.
Eligibility for aid for the renovation of buildings in Barcelona
These subsidies are intended for actions or works to improve the energy efficiency of single-family dwellings or dwellings belonging to multi-family buildings. The main requirement is to own a house in Barcelona, and to this must be added others such as:
- Eligible actions should start after 1 February 2020.
- Investments in thermal generators using fossil fuels shall not be eligible, although they may be included in the project and final energy certificate.
- Houses for which assistance is sought under this programme must be the habitual and permanent residence of their owners, usufructuaries or tenants at the time of application. This may be evidenced by a certificate or registration form.
- The period of execution of the works may not exceed 12 months from the date on which the aid was granted and must be completed before 30.6.2026.
What if I have already opted for another grant?
This aid is compatible with any other public aid for the same purpose, provided that the total cost of the assistance is not exceeded and that the other aid allows it. They shall be compatible with any other public support from European funds for different actions.
They are also compatible with aid under programme 1, aid for neighbourhood rehabilitation measures, or programme 3, aid for building rehabilitation measures, of the same call for proposals, provided that it is shown that the same cost is not subsidised.
Rehabilitation of buildings in Barcelona: amount of grant and deadlines
The minimum cost of the action must be 1,000 euros. The amount of the grant is 40% of the cost of the works up to a maximum of EUR 3,000. This assistance may be applied for until 30 June 2023, or until the funds are exhausted.
